Fabric samples for the Scarab dress

Today I started sewing the dress. I didn’t get as far as I’d hoped (I never do), but it’s a start. I love my choice of fabrics for this project, and that raw silk is a pleasure to work with. Anyway, here are some photos of the fabrics, which sadly do not show their awesomeness, hopefully the finished dress will be easier to photograph.

Black raw silk for the dress

Orange/fuchsia silk organza for the collar and drape

I don’t think I’ve been this exited about a dress since I made my wedding dress in 2012. These fabrics alone are just dreamy, and I have so many fun details to make. Hopefully I’ll still finish on schedule, otherwise we got an extended deadline today, the dress is now do Monday morning instead of Thursday afternoon.

I think my dress will look a little “girl on fire” with the black silk and the fiery organza draped about. Katniss Everdeen is certainly not the worst role model out there 🙂
