OK, so I’m interrupting the whole wedding crazy with finishing two UFO’s that’s been hiding in the closet for about a year and a half (the wedding project still continues of course).
Early 2011 I went through a knitting spell, with wash machine felting of the finished knitted projects. Two items I made were what started out as fairly big purses or hand bags, but due to the enormous impact the wash machine felting had, they were reduced to compact felt purses.
Last night I finally dug them out of the closet in order to make cotton lining for the both of them. A very basic purse lining was fitted to each purse, complete with no less than four pockets along the walls. The linings finally gave me the chance of using my hem roll foot, which after watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdDysubNrdM was a lot easier to work with than it started out. Afterwards the linings were sewn inside the purses using mattress stitches.
The felt rose I made based on the step by step guide by Gertie Hirsch: http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2012/03/easy-felt-roses-tutorial-with-video.html. Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing is one of the best sewing blogs I’ve came across, and worth checking out for anyone not familiar with her work!
Hopefully the soon-to-be-purse-owners will like their birthday gifts.
